Weather Journal...

Okay so here was what I was suppose to do, I was suppose to forcast the weather in my area for the next five days, but if I don't finish this today, all that I worked hard for would be for nothing.
So here's what I'm going to do, I've done some research and talked to a few people in my area, and I will forcast the past 5 days and whether or not it was what was said.

OCT 3rd 2012, it was called for 30% chance of rain and Cloudy and about 7 degrees.
Here was what the real forcast was, We got rain in the afternoon, but it was freezing rain. It was cloudy for most of that day with only a bit of sunshine brightening up the place.
OCT 4th 2012, was Cloudy but mostly sunny called for about 30% chance of rain and about 4 degrees.
Here was what really happened, Clouding over towards the end of the day, but a mix of sun and cloud, No rain.
OCT 5th 2012, called for sunshine and strong winds about 5 degrees.
Here was what the weather was, Sunny but very strong winds, cold, and grew colder that night with a clear sky.
OCT 6th 2012, Called for cloudy and rain, 12 degrees.
Cloudy all day, still windy but not as bad, warmed up no rain.
OCT 7th 2012, called for cloudy light rain and 8 degrees.
What the day brought, Sunny in the morning, clouded over during the day, no rain.
OCT 8th 2012, Couple of showers or rain or snow and 6 degrees.
What today brought, is mostly cloudy, with the sun trying to shine through, during the afternoon mix of rain that soon turned to snow.

So I know this is pretty poor, but with what I had to go with it's the best I got.
Anyways this was suppose to explain how the weather isn't always correct whether you listen to the radio, go online, or watch the tv's weather channel. You can never know what it's excatly suppose to be, you only get an idea of what it Could be. So make sure you have a plan B when planning.

What Can We Do?

Okay, so whether your freaking out right now about Global Warming or just concern and yet don't care, there are things you can do to help out.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Heard it before? Well it really does help, Carbon Dioxide isn't something to be taken lightly (Even if you're unsure about Global warming). It's damaging our earth, the plants and of course the air isn't as fresh, clean and pure, as it once was. So yeah you see those pop can's and plastic bags? You CAN Recycle them, either re-use some bags, or drop them off at a Recycling bin, even just using less helps.

Encourage Others to Conserve, Time to be the annoying Neighbour. I'm not saying be a pest and to always be getting on them about not doing their part, but keep them aware and be a good explame. When people see you doing it, it makes them realize that "Maybe this guy has it right.". Don't just bother people about Conserving, do it yourself and then you can keep others aware, when you are aware.

Use Less Heat and Air Conditioning,See that heater by your feet? Yeah not very good for our plant. I know it's comfortable, and yes I use it as well, but think about it? when you leave the room should it be on? Nope... not only could it burn your house down but it's Wasting energy, yeah wasting. The same thing goes for Air Conditioning, it is nice to have a hot or cold house, but I'm nearly positive there is a way for you to cut down. Got a spare bedroom you never use? Close the door. The rooms you do use keep the doors open for air flow. Get creative and think up ways to keep it cool, or having it nice an warm.

Get a Report Card from Your Utility Company, Sounds like the worst idea ever! Like who wants to see that?? But it shows you how much of your energy is getting used and wasted. It gives a rough idea of what you can do to cut back.

Change a Light Bulb, Yep you heard it before, but really it does help, and it has really taken over as one of the easiest things to do. And well worth it, to your wallet, to your house, to the earth... The list goes on about who gets off on the better end of that.

Plant a Tree, I'm sure you have heard that from board games... So... if board games, posters, and of course the school systems, doesn't that mean you should go plant a tree? Know why?? Cause we all want clean air! We want to keep living and breathing, so go plant a tree.

Drive Less and Drive Smart, Yeah your car is important to you, so take care of IT by driving well, no speeding or pushing down hard on the pedal, no tire burn outs. Not only will your car be better taken care of, the earth is like "Whew, thats better." What about walking?? Your two legs were given to you for a reason, why not use them? It really is good when you can cut back on driving, plus it does yourself some good by getting some fresh air and getting a workout while your at it. What about car pool? Save money, save gas, save some plants.

Use the "Off" Switch, It's super easy to do, when your leaving a room instead of leaving the light "On" flick it to "Off". Yeah your radio? Do the same. Your computer? Un-plug. Its not hard, and doesnt take a lot of time. You just gotta do it.

Buy Energy-Efficient Products, Buying a car? Go for one thats "Gone Green". Yeah buy something thats not going to harm the earth. recycled bottles are not gross, or wrong. Their fine. Nothing wrong with doing your extra little bit to help out. Keep aware of products that are not harmful.

Use Less Hot Water, I have the hardest time with this, but it can be done. Your showers don't need to be as long, plus shorter showers means you might make it to work on time. The more hot water you use the more engery is used to do that. So cut back, also on washing clothes, you don't need to wash them in hot water and you can plan with doing it once or maybe twice a week. There are things you can do to cut down on using so much hot water.

So here are 10 ideas of what you can do to cut down on the energy you use. Try it out and see if it makes a differance, and most of the time you'll be saving money in the long run when you do.

Stories of Global Warming

Something fishy about global-warming study

Okay so here's a story that I found odd and makes you second guess global warming.
So the big story here was the fact that scientist were saying Global Warming will be creating smaller fish, (Among other observations.) but what was interesting was the fact that just recently two of the largest fish were accounted for not to long ago,a sturgeon weighing nearly 500 kilograms, reportedly the second such monster to be caught recently in the river. And yet we're suppose to be having smaller fish by now? I know this is only a small argument you can make, but it does raise some questions. Did they get their studies wrong? Or are the wrong all together?
When Global Warming and Climate Change Are a Good Thing: Three Cheers for Melting Sea Ice
By Zachary Taylor in Science, Climate Change
http://www.policymic.com/articles/15120/when-global-warming-and-climate-change-are-a-good-thing-three-cheers-for-melting-sea-ice
So here's a story that seems the facts of Global Warming, and yet their not saying it's all together a bad thing. According to this story while the Artic is Shrinking the Antarctic is expanding. One big huge issue of the Ice Melting is the fact that sea level will rise... But a lot of what makes up the "land" there is Ice, so ice melting in the water, and there's no land mass. It's like Ice cubes melting in your drink. So it's not as big of an issue as many people have made it out to be. Also without a lot of that ice melted away it means a greater passage way from ships to go through, it can cut down on travel time and also means you don't have to wait for a certain season to do it.
Global Warming isn't as big on an issue... A lot of people missed facts that have been noted in this story.

From what I gathered on this fairly recent story's about Global Warming, I have come to the idea that... It's not as huge of a issue. Not to say there isn't one, but from what scientist have to been studying about it recently, there's just more talk of it not being that big of a problem. In some ways it could be a good thing (Could be... but also could not be.) and in another way it's just something that happens, something we have to change with. It's not like this is the first time the earth has been changed in some way, we learn to grow and adjust to the changes that happen.

Effects of Global Warming

Here are 2 videos on Global Warming
The first one is showing some of the effects of global warming, something you might not expect.
The second one is just a simple message about Global warming. That has some humour to it.

Yeah so the Artic is shrinking... Look at this poor little guy. Even though it's suppose to be warming up, I'm nearly positive that water is anything but warm. So yeah the Artic is said to be, basically disappearing. So big guys like this, may actually become non-existence too. Lossing the Artic will effect our world, because of many changes with the creatures and the extra water.

So I'm sure you know this, but with Global Warming it means that it's going to get really HOT in Tropical Rain Forest. Notice photo? Fire's are common now, imagine if Global Warming kicks into high gear. We might not have a Forest left. And what about Animals and what about Humans? It's dangerous of how many fires are happening now, it will be much worst.

Global Warming Defined

We all have heard the warnings... "Global Warming!" Should you take it seriously? Or is this one of those "I'll care for a while, but then I'll forget." I can't make you believe whether it's important or not. But how about we both learn some more about this subject...

Alright so notice the chart above is not really "up to date" but it does show the temperature, or in other words, Global Warming.
In the 1880 - 1935 period, the temperature anomaly was consistently negative. In contrast, the 1980 - 2005 period has had a consistently positive temperature anomaly. The 1917 temperature anomaly (-0.47oC) was the lowest year on record. Since 1917, global temperature has warmed, with the most recent years showing the highest anomalies of +0.4/ 0.6 oC in the past 120 years.

They have been saying the future for the earth is HOT! Okay maybe not super hot, but scientist have been studying global warming and have come up with the earth heating up. I'm thinking thats where the "Warming" in Global Warming, is coming from. They are saying that the Earth's Polar regions are going to be melting, and with the North and South polar's melting, means huge changes.

Okay, so I'm going to post 3 cartoon's that have Global Warming on the mind. (Please do not be offended by any of the following cartoons)

Really hope you can read theses, I do not mean to make fun of Global Warming or people who are working hard on keeping us aware of it.

Like I said earlier I can't make you believe one way or another about Global Warming. I would recommend to keep yourself updated to it. I haven't heard as much about the effects or what the Global Warming is doing right now. It's not really as a big deal as it once was. I think that in it's self says something about this whole thing.

Common Weather Folklore and Proverbs.

Good old sayings, you know the ones that have been passed down to generation to generation... yeah well I have found a few to show you and elaborate on them a bit.

"Clear moon, frost soon."

So... if the Atmosphere is clear, that will mean the earth will cool rapidly because the heat is radiated away at night, there is no "blanket" of clouds so nothing is in the way of letting the heat rise away.
Frost may form when its colder and no wind.

"The south wind warms the aged"       "The south wind is the father of the poor"

So the wettest, stormiest and generally the least pleasant of winds in the American States bordering the Gulf of Mexico, and that's where theses two come from.

"When the wind is in the west the weather is always best."

So there are some in the west slopes of the Cascade Mountains and the Sierras, where rain and snow are often companions of west and southwest winds.

"Rainbow in the morning gives you fair warning."

In the early morning light the sun is in the east and the shower and its rainbow are in the west. The weather in the mid-latitudes northern hemisphere moves mostly from west to east, the morning rainbow is saying the rain is moving from the west and coming towards the observer.

"A year of snow, a year of plenty."

A covering of snow on the farmland and orchards delay the blossoming of the fruit trees, until the frost season ends. It prevents the alternate thawing and freezing which does destroy wheat and other winter grains.

Old Kansas Saying: "In a green sky, the cows will fly"

This means that a tornado is coming if the sky is green. Some versions use house, pigs, and cars instead of cows.

"When ditch and pond affect the nose, look for rain and stormy blows."

When storms draw near, odors increase.

"When the Dew is in the Grass, Rain will Never Come to Pass.
When Grass is Dry at Morning Light, Look for Rain Before the Night."
Dew forming overnight indicates fair weather, whereas no dew forming indicates rain.

"A summer fog for fair, a winter fog for rain."

Ground fog is summer indicates fair weather, whereas ground fog in winter forecasts rain.

So here are the links to the websites that I had received these's off of. Websites can look legitimate, but can easily be faked. But here's the thing, it's not so much as to whether the website is done by some one who is a professional, but as to whether it makes sense... These's all had a good enough reason as to why they might be true. Use your common sense, also look for the websites that start to almost say the same thing, that can tell you that it's not just one persons idea or thought.

But all in all, I believe most of these sites are legit, when you read the fine print (normally found at the bottom) it will either say a quick thanks to some one who has helped, and who had created the info you needed.

Meteorology and Weather Prediction

Have you woken up one morning looked out your window and seen clouds? Then of course you open up a weather net work online and check to see if its suppose to rain later. The radar says nothing and yet the Satellite shows clouds. What?!?!? Confusing right? Why does it happen? Does this mean Radar is wrong?
No here's how it goes down, the Radar isn't looking at anything it cannot "see" but it sends radio signals, (It's kinda like how Bats fly and don't run into anything because they hear the echo they create.) In return if there is any precipitation in the area, the Radar will show you where the precipitation is. But the Satellite is Imagery, you will see clouds cover and cloud types, but you can't see what is going on  below the clouds.
So neither is right or wrong, they just both use different methods to getting the job done. And that doesn't mean their always correct or agreeing with each other.

So let's get more detailed about Radar's...
Radio Detection and Ranging, is the longer way of saying Radar. The weather surveillance radar systems normally use a parabolic antenna. (It's like a dish you have for T.V. or Internet.) It focus's a pulsed radio-frequency beam out into the Atmosphere, kinda light a search light. It does a 360 degrees scan of the radar site, it has a narrow beam and it points at different elevation angles, whenever it comes by.
The emitted energy that the radar antenna strikes its particles of precipitation. (Like Rain, Snowflakes, Freezing Rain, etc.) A portion of the engery is reflected back to the Radar, and the intensity of this energy is related to the number, size and type of precipitation particles.
It's hard to make out this picture but Basicly it's showing how the Radar works,
I'll focus on only a few of what's here. Notice the scale on the side? Yeah the colourful one.
That's the Intensity Scale, you can probably guess the "low" and "High" but just to clear it up, the light blue is the lowest, while the deep purple is the highest. The middle of the picture, is the Radar and the circles coming from the Radar are about 40km apart from each other. The farthest one is 250km.

Satellite... So I won't go so deep in detail with this, but basicly it's seeing the view from up high!
It mostly shows of the clouds and their forms. A lot of people go straight for the Satellite pictures to see whats up, they seem to understand the pictures, an actual imagine of whats happening. It's more effective, for us humans, to actual see whats going on. So when you see a picture from a Satellite you suddenly are like.. "Oh so thats what's happening?" because you see it for your self.
Here's a picture from a Satellite from the Environment Canada's, When you look at this picture you seem to understand what the weather is like right?? Being able to see makes a world of differance.
